The softest opening possible
The Old Soul at the Weatherstone coffeehouse (812 21st Street) recently procured a liquor license after waiting for, in the words of co-owner Tim Jordan, a “long fucking time.” And so, on a recent evening, they celebrated with “the softest possible opening,” according to co-owner Jason Griest. Said evening consisted of the duo and their accountant: Jordan and Griest had worked for almost three days straight and celebrated with a glass of wine, or three, from a Paso Robles winery called Broadside. Also, Old Soul currently has two beers on tap (soon to be four): a Rubicon Brewing Company ESB and Stone Brewing Levitation Ale, which Jordan described as “an amber, with a hoppy start and a malty finish.” Bellied up to the new bar, which Jordan and Griest built, they described a desire to remain a coffeehouse and not become a bar with “rowdy drunks.” Possible new drink: a pint of Stone porter with an espresso back?
