The Pet
A cat peers at me
From the porch.
When I lean closer,
It dashes away.
Why? I only want to
Pet it, squeeze it,
Tie it up, chain it,
And render it tame.
Keep its wonder
Forever captive
In my perishable arms.
I stare back at the cat,
As it dashes away.
