The People v. Blue Diamond
Blue Diamond Almond Growers will be facing a trial of their own next week. Sort of. On November 18, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and Westminster Presbyterian Church are holding a community forum on the state of Blue Diamond workers who are attempting to organize the local plant. According to the ILWU, a panel of elected and community representatives will “hear testimony” from Blue Diamond workers and then make recommendations for community actions in support of the workers. The panel includes state Senator Darrell Steinberg, Sacramento City Councilman Steve Cohn and the Reverend David Thompson from Westminster Presbyterian Church, among others. The forum runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at Westminster, 13th and N streets, Sacramento.
