The nature of this place

Two decades ago, our neighbors in the foothills began an experiment to collectively manage their federal forest land. They created the Yuba Watershed Institute and began publishing Tree Rings, a semiannual collection of poems, observations, art and writing about their collective natural backyard. Some of that material was published in the book The Nature of This Place. Friday afternoon, two of the contributors, journalist David Lukas and UC Davis professor Gary Snyder, will read and talk about the project at the UC Davis Memorial Union, 1 Shields Avenue in Davis. The event is free and begins at noon.
