The Last Shot
Screenwriter Jeff Nathanson (
Catch Me If You Can and
The Terminal) makes his debut as hyphenate director with this generally entertaining, darkly comic sting flick and skewering of all things Hollywood. An FBI agent (Alec Baldwin) attempts to crack the mobster grip on the New Jersey Teamsters Union by posing as an independent film producer, hoping to be inundated with bribe demands for securing truck services. He hires a writer and wannabe director (Matthew Broderick) to make the ruse seem authentic and gradually begins taking his phony professional status way too seriously. This profanity-strewn romp is based on an actual crime story that occurred in the 1980s.
