The Day After Tomorrow

Deadly hail pummels Tokyo. Tornadoes decimate Los Angeles. A tidal wave crashes over Manhattan. A father races against time to save his son. This retro disaster flick embraces both the best elements (cool special effects) and worst elements (lame drama) of its 1970s predecessors in a cautionary tale about the effects of global warming. An Antarctic ice shelf the size of Rhode Island collapses and drifts into the ocean, beginning a chain reaction of freak weather patterns that threaten to turn mankind into human Popsicles. A paleoclimatologist (Dennis Quaid) then attempts to walk from Washington, D.C., to New York to rescue his son (Jake Gyllenhaal), who is trapped inside the public library and romantically attracted to a fellow student.
