The Covenant
The teenage descendants of the Salem witches attend a modern-day Massachusetts prep school, where their supernatural powers will mature when they “ascend” on their 18th birthdays. This forgettable supernatural-teen thriller is the kind of WB-style soap opera where the characters have names like Chase Collins and Reid Garwin—and, for that matter, the actors have names like Sebastian Stan and Chace Crawford. The plot of J.S. Cardone’s script is bare-bones and by turns murky and obvious; the real challenge is trying to tell all the pretty, personality-free faces apart, especially in the dim blue-black lighting favored by director Renny Harlin. The two females in the cast, Laura Ramsey and Jessica Lucas, spend much of the film in bikini panties; Harlin and Cardone certainly know their audience.
