The Cocktail Hour
This comedy by A.R. Gurney features an affluent, well-connected family from upstate New York—the kind of people who prefer cocktails over wine or beer. The middle-aged son has written an autobiographical play, and his parents are worried the script will embarrass the family. This domestic dilemma is sketched in a witty but not terribly profound manner by the playwright. What makes the show worthwhile are the smart performances by the cast of four, particularly David Silberman and Sands Hall as the graying parents.
