The art of noise

Turn it up.

Turn it up.

To quote the Grinch, “If there’s one thing I hate, it’s all the noise, noise, noise, noise!” He had a point. Modern life makes quite a racket, especially around the holidays. Who doesn’t deserve a little aural pleasure? Well, you can insulate yourself with an iPod and earbuds or take a more active approach and learn to make your own joyful noises. How about this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.? Sacramento’s Art Directors and Artists Club (ADAC) offers a workshop, Did You Hear That? Sound Design: Visuals for Your Ears, with Studio Z’s vocal stylist and self-described painter of sound pictures, Zack Boles, and Emmy-winning sound designer Bongo Bob Smith. These audio-suite maestros explain their mysterious ways of using music, voice, sound effects and wicked computer power to achieve artful ends. Quiet your mind, or just geek out on some top-notch techie gear. Sierra 2 Center, 2791 24th Street, Room 10; $10 for non-members and $5 for students. Call (916) 731-8802 or visit www.adac.org for more information.
