The 411 on Sacramento 420
A rundown of Sacramento-area medical-marijuana dispensaries—and more
Patients use medical marijuana for all sorts of reasons: terminal diseases, like cancer and HIV/AIDS; other illnesses, like glaucoma; and even some cases of diabetes, or to alleviate chronic pain, soothe the stomach so that one can eat, assuage anxiety, concentrate, help go to sleep, relieve nausea, alleviate headaches, ease small pains. Or to just plain relax.
And patients consume this marijuana in various forms. They smoke it; vaporize it; nibble on it; mix it in food, as with olive oil; lick it like ice cream; drop it under tongues as a tincture; rub it on a sore spot as a gel or cream; spread it in butter form; suck it as a sucker; or even drink it in a soda.
There are at least 40 medical-cannabis dispensaries in the Sacramento area—likely more—but these dispensaries do more than just sell medicinal marijuana. They offer compassion programs, where the very ill or poor can obtain free medicine. And they also offer classes, as varied as how to grow and cultivate medicine, yoga, patients’ rights tutorials and end-of-life counseling.
And, most importantly, they help many patients quit pharmaceutical drug habits, which often cause long-term health problems.
Sure, it feels good to use marijuana and is great for creativity and relaxation. Even partying. But for these dispensaries—and this is especially the case for Sacramento dispensaries—it’s more than just marijuana. It’s about community. It’s about Sacramento.
The following is a comprehensive directory of local cannabis dispensaries, delivery services, referral doctors and cannabis-delivery shops for patients—or future patients. All answers were provided by dispensary owners and cultivators.

We opened April 1, 2009, and are currently celebrating our one-year anniversary.
Clones and starters:
We offer clones in various sizes and feature “clone days,” where we reduce that donation price and have vendors on hand for questions on particular strains. Clone day will be featured monthly throughout the outdoor planting.
Volunteer programs:
In the past, we have partnered up with other city dispensaries and featured Introduction to MMJ classes, beginning-growing classes, cloning classes and advanced horticulture classes at an off-site location. We currently offer yoga class free to our members, from 11 a.m. to noon every Thursday, and are working on offering additional days during the week. We are currently building a book exchange/library for our members and plan to partner up again with other city dispensaries to offer cooking classes in a commercial kitchen at an off-site location. We are also in the process of creating support groups for our members. All services we offer are free to our members.
Additional information:
We offer a safe, comfortable atmosphere in a great neighborhood close to area hospitals, infusion and HIV/AIDS clinics. We are happy to verify by fax, (916) 400-3117, or phone if you have a hard-to-reach physician. We are Americans for Safe Access donors and are very active in area politics fighting for patient rights. We donate office space to Ryan Landers of the Compassionate Coalition as well as the newly formed ASA affiliate Sac Patients group. A Therapeutic Alternative is on the board of directors for the Sacramento Alliance of Collectives. We are very well-educated in medical-marijuana strains and are happy to take all the time patients need in finding the right medicine for their needs. If we don’t have what you are looking for, we will find an area dispensary that does.

Clones and starters:
We have premium clones starting at $10.
Volunteer programs:
Patients can volunteer to participate in our many programs, from our neighborhood beautification program, that picks up trash and plants flowers, etc., to sharing their cannabis experience by writing a patient testimonial or video, calling their public officials, etc. We have a branch of our collective, called Revolutionary Love project, which is currently working on rehabbing a condemned building for a community center (ribbon cutting May 1), and we have torn down a burned house to make a community garden in Oak Park. We also set up educational booths and domes for festivals, and many more projects that depend on collective volunteers.
Additional information:
Be fearless, choose love. Capitol Wellness Collective has a long and rich local history in the medical-cannabis movement. Our top priority has always been to educate our patients and community so they can feel empowered and involved in this movement. CWC is a major supporter of Americans for Safe Access, California NORML, Marijuana Policy Project, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Shriners Hospitals for Children, wounded veterans and more. We are also a committed group of community members working to enhance our community through kindness, generosity, compassion and understanding. We believe that together we can make a difference one person, one block, one community at a time. Some of our community projects include sending a collective employee to provide a semester of art class at an elementary school and facilitating our counselor to counsel homeless clients of Loaves & Fishes. If not for love, then why?

Legal Cannabis Delivery (LCD) is a member-based nonprofit organization formed to meet the demand of the growing medical-marijuana industry. We are not a “marijuana dispensary,” “cannabis club” or “collective,” but a nonprofit member association in full compliance with the California attorney general’s guidelines, California Proposition 215 and the California Senate Bill 420. As experienced caregivers/cultivators, we know how to select the finest and most medically effective strains available on the market and deliver them to you. We are always professional, convenient and, most of all, discreet. We currently serve the greater Sacramento area; you can refer to our delivery map or contact us if you are not in the specified area and we will let you know if there is a delivery charge. Most deliveries are free (with minimum order). Ask us about our “Platinum Club”; it’s super exclusive and invite-only. We do not accept everyone who applies for membership, so for those who have questions about the status of their application, please contact us here or call us at (888) 677-9877.

The owner has been teaching and running medicinal collectives for the last five years. Chris Stover has taught at Capitol Wellness, El Camino Wellness and City of Trees. Over 500 gardens have been developed under his supervision. Over 700 students have taken his class to grow some awesome medicine. Our goal is to teach the patient how to take care of their own needs. Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, you feed him forever.
Clones and starters:
We have a great variety of clones, teens, mothers and seeds true to their species. These plants have been properly rooted and feed.
Volunteer programs:
We have classes on cannabis horticulture, concentrates, edibles, aeroponics, hydroponics and art therapy. All classes are conducted by certified teachers, educated in their fields. Each classmate receives a curriculum and reading material. Members of MFA have opportunities to volunteer within the medicinal-cannabis movement. We have a farmers get-together three times a year. During the meetings, we discuss growing techniques and other current events.

In January 2009, Unity found its home in the Point West Business Park after 10 months of diligently searching for a location that met the attorney general’s guidelines. The A.G. guidelines called for a collective to be 1,000 feet from a school, park or residential area. After working with our real-estate agent, we found the perfect location, right off of Business 80 near Cal Expo. Unity is located in a professional business park with great neighbors, where patients will find safe, private access off the main road, with plenty of parking.
