Tea time
Michelle Tea, spoken word star and author of tough, lyrical semi-autobiographical novels, will journey to Sacramento this Monday. The occasion? The release of a brand new book! The Chelsea Whistle is a memoir of her childhood in working class Chelsea, Massachusetts complete with violent Catholic school nuns, a fiery Italian dance teacher and a house full of secrets that isolate her family and bind them together. The Village Voice named her last book, Valencia, one of the 25 Best Books of 2000. Don’t miss the chance to hear this unique voice and experience her latest work. Tea will appear Monday at 7p.m. on the patio of The Open Book. A large crowd is expected, so the management urges you to arrive early. Admission is free. 910 21st St. For more information, call 498-1004 or visit www.openbookltd.com/events.
