Sweet tart
If frozen yogurt has a flaw, it’s that it can be a little cloying—too sticky-sweet to make a truly refreshing summer treat. That problem gets fixed at Yogurtopia, the new self-serve fro-yo spot on Freeport. They offer tart, barely sweet European-style frozen yogurt, plus a myriad of toppings, all of which you load up yourself and then pay for by the ounce. The candy toppings vary from old-timey sprinkles to nouveau mini Gummi bears to classic crushed Heath bars, and there’s also a full variety of sauces, nuts and that sort of thing. But I liked the European-style yogurt best with the fresh fruit: You’ll find real strawberries, blueberries and more, not those canned fruit sauces that are at so many frozen-yogurt spots. There’s also granola, which complements the Euro-yogurt’s tang. If all this sounds just a little too healthy, though, don’t worry: For those with a sweet tooth, there’s not only all that candy, but also American-style soft-serve.
