Swanky, not skanky

Once upon a time, I had a neighbor in Midtown whose boyfriend played in a band and drove a huge 1965 Ford Country Squire station wagon with a homemade paint job. “Mac Swanky Trio,” it read. I always thought it was one of the cooler motor vehicles prowling the local avenues. Anyway, the guy’s brother and bandmate was Scott McChane, a singer-songwriter who’s still active. McChane will play The True Love Coffeehouse, 2406 J Street, on Friday, December 12, at 9 p.m. for $6. Opening will be Christian Kiefer, a name that might look vaguely familiar to some of you astute readers. And the following night (Saturday, December 13)—same venue, time and cover charge—will be the cool Warren Bishop and the Holy Men, with the Veronicas opening.
