Supernova
When the crew of an interstellar medical vessel responds to a faraway distress call, they bring aboard a mysterious miner (Peter Facinelli) and his even more mysterious treasure, a sort of lava lamp from the ninth dimension. The badness that inevitably ensues is gamely met by the film’s two chief assets: James Spader as a dour pilot recovering from a bout with substance abuse, and Angela Bassett as a sour doctor recovering from a wrong guy. The pair must also battle narrative holes and boners, obvious and embarrassing studio cuts, and several stretches of unsane dialogue.
