Sunday, June 28, Del the Funky Homosapien
Avalon Nightclub, 9 p.m., $15
What to do when you backpack the world with a series of classic jams (Deltron 3030 and the first Gorillaz album), disappear for eight years and then try to come back (last year’s Eleventh Hour), but find hip-hop’s changed since you’ve been gone? You get pissed off and remind everybody that you didn’t fall off. That’s what Oakland icon Del the Funky Homosapien did when he dropped his free Funk Man album, raging against his haters and arguing for his continued relevance. Del should be in better spirits at the Avalon, as he’ll be joined by hypeman Bukue One, A-Plus, turntablist Mike Relm, Serendipity Project and a room full of Hiero fans. 805 15th Street.
