Sun, Oct 25, Navigator vs. Navigator
Javalounge, 6 p.m., $7
Where would be a good place to stick Navigator vs. Navigator musically? Well, they are from Seattle, so let’s just play it safe and say “indie.” The vocals give a nod toward early Modest Mouse and their Smiths-influenced beats could shake the hips of even the most jaded record-store employee. They’ve got verses that sound like they’d be right at home in one of Mike Patton’s wet dreams, right next to choruses that float on Casio keyboard lines. However, their angular song arrangements and grindcore breakdowns are just enough to piss off Apple executives looking for the next “cool” band to stick in one of their commercials. Put some of that in your coffee. 2416 16th Street, www.myspace.com/navigatorvsnavigator.
