Sucker Punch
A young woman (Emily Browning) in a filthy insane asylum—or is she really a sex slave in a sleazy whorehouse?—schemes to escape with several other inmates (Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung). Director Zack Snyder punctuates their plotting with wild and random violent fantasies, but his script (written with Steve Shibuya) is void of story, character, drama or anything interesting beyond its $82 million worth of CGI. The movie is as dull as watching somebody else play an incoherent video game; it’s all hot chicks with guns, an elaborately sublimated masturbation fantasy for the kind of adolescent fanboy nerd that the really hot chicks won’t talk to. Scott Glenn, as a so-called “Wise Man,” intones some of the most banal lines ever written in English, and he looks like he knows it.
