Start the madness
A lot of hubbub’s been made lately about the explosion of great restaurants in Roseville, much of it by yours truly. Most of these places are at the new mall or along newly developed Douglas Boulevard. The Vernon Street Grill is different. It’s located in the heart of old downtown Roseville, a slice of American main street that hasn’t changed much over the past 30 years. The grill specializes in "authentic East Coast-style food," and the dishes I sampled—spicy hot Buffalo wings and a Philly cheesesteak sandwich stuffed with meat, cheese, onions and mushrooms—were right on the money. The wings in particular impressed. Only the drumstick part of the wing was served, in a sauce that’s made to order from "mild" to "insane." Naturally, I went the crazy route, and my gums were still paying the price hours later. The Vernon Street Grill: yet another excuse to hang out in Roseville.
