Space is a dangerous place filled with shady characters. There are pregnant men, miniature robots and outlaws addicted to olives. No need to fear, Stingray Sam is on a mission, with his pimento-sucking pal The Quasar Kid, to save a little girl from a “genetically designed figurehead of a very wealthy planet”—a.k.a., the bad guy. The six-episode film is a little sci-fi, a little Western and a little musical. Yeah, it sounds a bit confusing. Let’s just say, a Monty Python’s musical version of Star Trek featuring Clint Eastwood’s Blondie may share the same movie rental shelf as Stingray Sam. The film, which debuted at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, is Cory McAbee’s follow-up to The American Astronaut. Check out the first episode at www.stingraysam.com.
