Space Cowboys

One of the summer’s best bets for a good time. Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this story of four old test pilots who got passed over for the space program but get a chance for a space flight when a mysterious satellite malfunctions. Eastwood is joined by Tommy Lee Jones, James Garner and Donald Sutherland, and all of them are a pleasure to watch for two hours. I had forgotten what an eccentric actor Sutherland can be, and he’s in top form this time out. I expect this film will have some good word of mouth and be a surprise box office hit. Eastwood, at 70, is still directing pictures with zest. It does contain two sights I didn’t need to see: Tommy Lee Jones’ naked ass and William Devane noisily chewing gum.
