Soul picnic

What could be more appropriate to sell at a church fund-raiser than soul food? Eleven dollars will buy you barbecued ribs, fried chicken, greens, black-eyed peas, candied yams, macaroni and cheese, salad, corn bread, sweet-potato pie and peach cobbler at Florin United Methodist Church’s annual Soul Food Dinner. If your spirit isn’t soothed by all those Southern specialties, perhaps the knowledge that your admission fee helps the church serve the underprivileged in the Florin area will do the trick. Dinner will be served from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, and takeout is available for those who like to eat later. The church is located at 7560 Florin Road.
