Somewhere west of Sturgis
A few years ago we drove up to Konocti Harbor, a funky old-school resort on Clear Lake, to see Willie Nelson. The venue was weird enough; it looked as though it was built to showcase talents like Vic Damone and Jerry Vale, but show-business realities had forced it to book acts like Night Ranger and Lee Greenwood instead. Opening that night for Nelson’s Rastafarian and Western revue was a local combo, the Fryed Brothers Band. It turns out they’re mighty tight with Willie, who released their latest album, The Roar of Dirty Thunder, on his own Pedernales Records. And they rocked, too, in a whiskey and motor-oil kind of way, with fiddles and pedal steel. You can catch the Fryed Brothers this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, at Louie’s Cocktail Lounge, 3030 Mather Field Rd. in Rancho Cordova. Ages 21 and over; for information call 362-9151.
