A reader recently accused this writer of having “an obvious hard-on” for a certain local band. Perhaps. But if this writer needs to wear loose-fitting metaphorical pants for any one local act, it isn’t Low Flying Owls, it’s a trio named Frank Jordan. Simply put, Frank Jordan is brilliant; it’s an album-rock juggernaut with enormous potential—think Led Zeppelin, or Nirvana. You can find out for yourself this Friday, October 15, at the Blue Lamp, 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, at a 9 p.m., 21-and-over show with the Proles and cover band Floydian Slip. Cover’s $7, and be sure to pick up a copy of Frank Jordan’s Milk the Thrills if you don’t already own one. In other news, Del the Funky Homosapien—e.g., “Mista Dobalina Mista Bob Dobalina”—also is playing in town on Friday, October 15, at the Colonial Theatre, 3522 Stockton Boulevard, with Aceyalone, Ab Rude, Mikah 9 as Haiku d’Etat, Zion I and Bukue One. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and advance tickets are $20.
