Six from ‘06
It’s that list-making time of year again. Here, in no particular order, are six flavors I’ll remember from 2006:
Tender chunks of goat meat and unbelievably earthy salsa at Birrieria Bugambilias (7242 Franklin Boulevard, (916) 424-3243).
Varietal honeys (my fave: star thistle) from the honey-tasting bar at Sacramento Beekeeping Supplies (2110 X Street, (916) 451-2337).
The “poppers”—old-fashioned, flavorful hot dogs—from Bledsoe Natural Pork (available at the Sunday Farmer’s Market at 8th and W streets).
Those chocolatey, rich, way-better-than-Hostess housemade Ho Hos from Karen’s Bakery Café (705 Gold Lake Drive in Folsom, (916) 985-2665).
Rosy-fleshed Pink Pearl apples (available only seasonally) and the superlative, buttery apple tart a friend made from them and shared with me.
