Shop slow
Summer’s heat makes everyone want to slow down. I asked Kira O’Donnell, convivium leader of Slow Food Sacramento, about her favorite places to find products that embody the principles of slow food.
1. Morant’s Old-Fashioned Sausage Kitchen, Sacramento: “I love visiting Morant’s to ogle the dizzying array of sausages and sandwich meats. All Morant’s products are hand-prepared, cured and smoked right there on the premises by owner Dirk Müller.”
2. A Slice of Goodness, Roseville: “This cozy little restaurant offers about 20 different kinds of pie every day.”
3. Impossible Acres, Davis: “This wonderful, family-owned and -operated farm offers a wide selection of you-pick berries, stone fruit, apples and tomatoes.”
4. “Newcastle Produce houses a treasure trove of products from Placer County—from the extensive fresh-produce section to the racks of preserved goods, such as locally produced jams and jellies.”
