Shana Morrison
Shana Morrison is the true love child of Janet Planet and Van “The Man” Morrison. This is a prettily produced adult-pop album, revealing the country and blues underpinnings that come with sharing that gene pool. Morrison’s confident singing exceeds the Macy/Alanis/Sheryl angles via tasty arrangements and production, intelligent—neither self-absorbed whining nor ball busting here, thank you—writing and that dig down groovin’ B-3 organ. Special guests Sonny Landreth on slide and daddy Van on one vocal (plus two song contributions) provide a winning touch, too—ouch, Papa, in the most righteous musical sense. (Morrison’s CD release party is at Palms Playhouse on Sunday, April 28, at 7 p.m.; cover’s $15.)
