Shakin’ the Mess Outta Misery

Shay Youngblood’s tale of a young woman raised in the south during the late 1950s is full of the wonder of gatherings of women. Daughter (Candace Nicholas-Lippman) is left behind when her mother goes to New York City; she’s raised instead by a number of strong women (Elaine Douglas, Voress Franklin, Jean Hooks, K.T. Masala, Elise Reese and Mardres Story) who stand up to trouble and sing praises to the Lord. Oh, and they also know how to have a good time. Incredible singing, some laughter in the right places, and actresses who know how to work together make this a well-done production. Th, F, Sa 8pm; Su 2pm. Through 1/16/10.
