Believe it or not, concert fliers aren’t always tacky-looking pieces of litter made by high-school students in Microsoft Paint. In fact, the rock poster can actually be a piece of art to be celebrated, like a Picasso or a Warhol. American Artifact: The Rise of American Rock Poster Art recounts the vibrant history of the 20th-century art form that finally brought visual and audio expression together as one—sort of like a melodious peanut-butter and jelly sandwich. If the documentary isn’t enough to satisfy your craving for sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll art, the screening also doubles as an art show, featuring the works of Sacramento rock-poster artist Paul Imagine. There also will be a Q-and-A sesh with director Merle Becker and special guests Ron Donovan and Chuck Sperry of the Firehouse Kustom Rockart Company. And if that still isn’t enough for you, well, that’s why there’s rehab.
