Seven dollar act

“Wow, a flower … “ (a scene from Michael Bruce’s short film One Dollar Girl).
Sure, Low Flying Owls are playing, live, afterward. And while One Dollar Girl is a film rather than a band, the 36-minute short, written and directed by Michael Bruce, does contain original music by a number of local talents, which include Birthday, Park Avenue, Dusty Brown, Perverts of the Future and the aforementioned LFO. It was shot on 16mm color-reversal film, and reportedly is about a grieving widower who becomes obsessed with a strange woman he meets (attempted translation: bring your own screaming yellow zonkers). It will screen as part of Shorts Program III at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, August 11, at the ACB Sacramento International Film Festival at the Crest Theatre, 1013 K St. Admission is $7.
