Send the meat packing

This Sunday may be the first day of spring, but it also happens to be the 20th anniversary of the Great American Meatout, a grassroots campaign urging people to kick the meat habit. Celebrities including Mary Tyler Moore, Casey Kasem, Bill Maher and Jennie Garth all are helping to spread the Meatout message. Throughout the country, communities will come together to advocate the increased consumption of vegetables, fruits and whole grains. On a local level, the Sacramento Vegetarian Society will host its monthly potluck. Bring a food or drink item—sans meat—to share with others. You’ll also need to bring your own plate, a glass and some cutlery. The potluck will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op Learning Center, located at 1900 Alhambra Boulevard.
