Kim Simmonds is legendary for his guitar expertise during the 37 years he has led the groundbreaking British blues-rock-boogie band, Savoy Brown. He also may hold the record for personnel changes in a band. The band’s strong 2003 incarnation offers a moody blend of tighter blues melodies and more mature songwriting than in previous efforts—God knows good blues lyrics are needed these days. “When It Rains,” the title track and “Shake It All Night” all recall the classic Savoy Brown sound. Those of you who are not as familiar with the band might hear the stripped-down simplicity of Robert Cray within these songs. This CD is recommended for its nighttime Brit-blues elegance.
