Sat, May 28, Akon
Power Balance Pavilion, 7 p.m., $29.50-$99.50
Akon is best known for his slick, synthetic ballads. Weak albums and questionable image aside, the singer is a beguiling presence. His older collaborations with rappers like 50 Cent and Eminem felt, to put it generously, strained. But his deliriously overblown hook on the Lonely Island’s “I Just Had Sex” is a highlight of pop music in 2011. If only he could release a solo record that fully capitalized on his talents. Joining Akon on tour in Sacramento is Usher, the chiseled, lucrative face of R&B. Expect to hear “DJ Got on Us Fallin’ in Love” for the thousandth time. 1 Sports Parkway, www.akononline.com.
