Sat., March 30, George Clinton

Ace of Spades, 7 p.m., $10

George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic will always be the eccentric band tearing up a stoner frat house in the 1994 movie PCU with a sold-out concert. All shenanigans aside, Clinton—with his signature rainbow-colored dreads—is widely known as a main innovator of funk alongside Sly & the Family Stone and James Brown. Oddly enough, Clinton started his musical career not as a funk master, but with a doo-wop group inspired by Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers. He even spent time as a staff songwriter for Motown. To add to his résumé, Clinton also produced the Red Hot Chili Peppers' second album, Freaky Styley. 1417 R Street, www.georgeclinton.com.
