Sat, March 26, The Motels
The Boardwalk, 8 p.m., $20-$22
The moniker the Motels has never described a specific group of people. It is a name Martha Davis, notorious for replacing members of her band, has called her music as an entity since the late ’70s. The remarkably 60-year-old singer was a hit in the ’80s with her songs “Only the Lonely,” “Suddenly Last Summer” and a handful of other lesser-known singles. Following that, she had a decade-long hiatus from the Motels, which ended in 1998. Whatever name she uses, Davis’ sound renders the listener fondly reminiscent of the early days of new wave. With Larisa Bryski, Smirker and Exhale. 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, www.themotels.com.
