Sat, March 20, Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole
Beatnik Studios, 7 p.m., $15-$25
Creole music never sounded so reggae. Cedric Watson, who hails from Lafayette, La., maintains the traditional zydeco elements of Louisiana Creole: He plays both fiddle and accordion, writes and sings in French, and has a band member who plays a metal washboard. While the music is seeped in country, la-la and roots music, Watson’s voice exudes Afro-Caribbean influences. Francophones will recognize songs referencing Mardi Gras and Cajun pig roasts—can’t get much more Louisiana than that. The concert is part of Alliance Française de Sacramento’s daylong celebration of Louisiana and Canadian French culture. 2421 17th Street, www.myspace.com/cedricwatson.
