Sat, June 13, Andrew Heringer
Beatnik Studios, 8 p.m., $10
If there’s one thing I’ll never understand, it’s why people refer to Andrew Heringer’s music as New Age. He doesn’t sing about space. He doesn’t have ambient tropical sounds in his songs. He’s not dating Enya. What the hell? What I do understand is that he’s got a satchel of clever lyrics and hooks that you’ll still be humming while making copies in the office the morning after his show. And his Kermit the Frog act? So effing rad, it makes Jim Henson chuckle in his grave. Catch Heringer with his full band as they kick off their Family and Friends Tour this Saturday. Oh Andrew, if you’re serious about switching to New Age, I play a mean rain forest. 2421 17th Street.
