Sat, July 2, The Temptations
Cache Creek Casino Resort, 7:30 p.m., $35-$45
The Temptations accomplished what Motown label president Berry Gordy had groomed them for: They proved they could please both white and black audiences, dominate Billboard charts and win Grammys. After releasing the chart-topping classic “My Girl,” the Temptations won a Grammy for the hit “Cloud Nine,” the first ever for the label. The Temptations continued releasing soul and R&B classics like “Just My Imagination,” won two more Grammys, and dabbled in funk, doo-wop and rock. Though Otis Williams is the only original member, the group remains a timeless influence, even for modern R&B bands. 1455 Highway 16 in Brooks, www.thetemptations.com.
