Sat, Jan 8, Phenomenauts
The Boardwalk, 7 p.m., $10
San Francisco’s the Phenomenauts are like a cheap and dirty science-fiction novel: relatively affordable and strangely entertaining. Plus, their music videos pay tribute to old, cheesy sci-fi movies, very Mystery Science Theater 3000 worthy. The Phenomenauts were voted Best Lifestyle Music Artist by SF Weekly and rereleased their album Rockets and Robots on Springman Records in 2002, a label that also worked with Sacto’s Groovie Ghoulies. Staying true to their futuristic aesthetic with homemade uniforms and members identifying themselves under aliases such as Commander Angel Nova (vocals/guitar), this band entertains. 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, www.phenomenauts.com.
