Sat, Jan 23, R.J. Mischo
Torch Club, 9 p.m., $10
Blues singer and harmonica player R.J. Mischo’s 2008 album, King of a Mighty Good Time, features familiar woes that afflict blues musicians: drinking, being poor and traveling via Greyhound bus. The opening song, “Cheap Wine,” fuses cowboy harmonic vibrato with New Orleans-style jazz and Chicago blues around lyrics such as “Can’t afford my whiskey, gonna buy some wine.” It’s complex, yet so simple. Mischo knows how to handle his harmonica with finesse. He also knows how to put on a good show, which is probably why he’s king of a mighty good time. The event will feature Little Charlie on guitar. 904 15th Street, www.rjblues.com.
