Sat, Jan 2, Fish Cat Fish
Naked Lounge Downtown, 8 p.m., $5
Fish Cat Fish has a sound that pairs perfectly with a blunt, which seems fitting for the weekend after the holidays. The band, which formed in 2008, is like funk on a psychedelic trip with a chaser of soul from vocalist Rachel Crisler. Although her voice is overpowered a bit by the music on their MySpace page tracks, there is a definite hint of power, intensity and passion. But still, the long instrumental sections are calming—in a funky way. All that’s needed is a peach Optimo and some OG Kush. Also playing are Nice Nugs and a Half, and Overlay. 1111 H Street, www.myspace.com/fishcatfishmusic.
