Sat, Feb 27, Kid Sister
Beatnik Studios, 9 p.m., $8-$10
To clarify, Kid Sister, one of hip-hop’s fastest rising female artists, was not named after the ’80s My Buddy doll’s frightening sibling, you know, with the annoying jingle. Born Melissa Young, her older brother is Josh “J2K” Young, half of the electronic duo Flosstradamus. Though she gained plenty of attention on her own, her big break came when Kanye West contributed to her song “Pro Nails.” Although who knows how useful a West nod is nowadays, since Beyonce had “the greatest video of all time.” Still, this badass female version of Nelly is not to be missed. With Mookiesaake, DJ Whores, Sex&Weight, Mike Diamond and Set Theory (featuring Skurge). 2421 17th Street, www.kidsister.com.
