“Immersion” is the correct term to describe Alex Jenkins’ Sound Immersion’s new CD, Generosity, because it goes deep. On “Drizzle,” saxophone runs complement unique-sounding cymbals, which explore a softer, pitter-patter side of the usual crash and ride. On “All Them Cows,” the vibe is more experimental and dynamic, Jenkins bumping the toms with a thoughtful force and vigor that abides the other instruments’ dissonance—but in a very cohesive, cool way. And in the end, that’s what’s interesting about the improv-jazz release: It’s Jenkins’ kit that ties the seven tracks together, and it’s nice to hear drums running the show. 1001 R Street, www.alexdrums.net.
