Sat, April 3, Jeepster
Old Ironsides, 9 p.m., $7
San Francisco’s Jeepster makes music that embodies that classic California coastal sound—if by “classic” you mean “partially sunny with a chance of storms.” The trio, which has Sacramento roots in an earlier project O! the Joy, makes music with an emphasis on catchy beats and dreamy and ethereal melodies. The result is a sound that creates a roller coaster of emotion. Songs such as “Bird on a Wall” and “Honey Bees” exude an essence of pure pop—they’re sweet and totally hum-worthy. Any threat of a sugary overdose, however, is thankfully cut with a razor-thin margin of anguish and despair. 1901 10th Street, www.myspace.com/jeepsterarmy.
