Samosa surprise

Who knew a standout samosa would be found in the quiet neighborhood of Elmhurst? Cottage Mart (2130 51st Street), a little corner store with a ping-pong table—the owner may challenge you to a game—gets these appetizers that are almost large enough to satisfy as a meal from Shaz Restaurant (4333 Airport Drive). Only $1.69, the deep-fried dumpling was so savory, it didn’t even need the spicy mint or sweet tamarind chutney that was provided, but it was a delicious addition. So much so, I’ll be going back for more—and to try the other vegetarian offerings on the menu—to enjoy in the shop’s lovely, lush green patio.
