Sac’s own Obama-thon
Those who have it hope it’s contagious. It’s “Obama fever,” so-named in a press release from Sacramento for Obama ‘08. The group, which first met February 22 to support Senator Barack Obama’s presidential bid, expects more than 100 people to join them for their next organizing meeting.
Kim Mack, co-chairwoman of Sacramento for Obama ‘08, told SN&R that 55 people came to the group’s first meeting. “I was shocked,” she said. Mack has worked on other political campaigns, including Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential bid, but such early interest in Obama’s candidacy took her by surprise. “I was used to that kind of response two weeks before the general election,” she said.
California is crucial if Obama is to win the Democratic primary. Mack believes that early organizing is necessary to reach all the potential supporters in the northern part of the state. Sacramento for Obama ‘08 will meet next on Saturday, March 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Blue Cue, 1004 28th Street in Sacramento.
