Role Models
Probably the best thing about this latest in a never-ending line of bro-medies is that it’s fast-forward-friendly: You can skip the entire first act to when Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott get busted and not lose a beat. Which is good, because the scenes when the duo volunteers as adult mentors to jacked-up youths are raunchy fun. Gayle (Jane Lynch, uncomfortable funny) runs the organization, called Sturdy Wings, and pairs Rudd and Scott with a foulmouthed young black kid (Bobb’e J. Thompson) and a nerd into Dungeons & Dragons re-enactment (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, the geek from Superbad), who barely steal and save the film from staid dialogue and cliché string tugging.
