Rock ’n’ roll ghosts

The Replacements: Waxed-Up Hair and Painted Shoes

More than 20 years after the Replacements called it quits, the band is arguably more popular than ever with a handful of successful reunion shows and its nomination to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. No better way, then, to jump on the 'Mats bandwagon than with this hefty collection of band images. The Replacements: Waxed-Up Hair and Painted Shoes: The Photographic History (Voyageur Press, $30) is a visual history arranged in chronological order. Each chapter opens with an essay from Minneapolis-based critic Jim Walsh, and, in addition to tour pics, there's documentation of fanzines, backstage passes, promo items and more.
