Return to Me
Dean Martin’s velvety title ballad launches a storybook romance in which an architect (David Duchovny) loses his wife to a car wreck and then crosses paths with a waitress (Minnie Driver) who has had a heart transplant. The two lonely singles rather comically date and discover they have more in common than their relationship may endure. It’s a premise that co-writer, director and supporting star Bonnie Hunt fails to flesh out and explore. Instead of progressing to an uncharted fusion of modern love and medicine, this film merely orbits around an unconvincing plot point and introduces us to an ethnic melting pot of senior citizens who frequent O’Reilly’s Italian restaurant.
