Rent
OK, so the plot’s a little dated—who cares when the singing and dancing is so fantastic? This perfectly cast, incredibly choreographed production of Jonathan Larsen’s pop-rock opera about bohemian life in 80s New York City is just smashing—and Joseph Boyette (Angel) kicks up his heels (while wearing them). It’s life, love, AIDS and politics, all in one great big package of art. Don’t miss the first local production of Rent. Mature themes and language; recommended for 16 and up. F, Sa 8pm; Su 2pm. Through 9/26. $15-$20. Runaway Stage Productions at the 24th Street Theatre, 2791 24th St.; (916) 207-1226; www.runawaystage.com.
