Refusing to settle
Contents May Have Shifted
Deftly written and possibly autobiographical, local author Pam Houston’s new novel Contents May Have Shifted features a narrator named Pam. Pam is a wanderer, a seeker looking for meaning in her life everywhere from Davis, where she teaches grad school, to Bumthang Valley in the kingdom of Bhutan. She makes friends and lovers along the way, finds herself, loses herself and, in every location, has fascinating experiences that seldom last longer than a few pages of Houston’s lyrical, vivid prose. Granted, reading Pam’s journey in pieces can feel abrupt, disjointed—but it’s curiously true to the sensation of life off the written page. http://pamhouston.wordpress.com.
